In
order to qualify for the position of Police Officer, all applicants
SHALL: 1. Be twenty-one (21) years of age at time of application. 2. Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. certificate. 3. Be of good moral character as confirmed by a thorough, comprehensive background investigation. 4. All applicants shall be fingerprinted and subjected to a search of records and fingerprint files to disclose any criminal record. 5. Not be on probation for a criminal offense above misdemeanor. 6. Not have been convicted of Any felony. 7. Not have been convicted of a misdemeanor or its equivalent within the last thirty-six (36) months. 8. Not be under indictment for a felony or misdemeanor. 9. Not have ever executed at anytime a confession to a felony offense, if that confession is admissible as evidence in any criminal or civil proceeding in any state or federal court. 10. Possess a valid driver's license not in jeopardy of suspension. No driver's license suspension within the last 2 years, conviction for 3 moving violations within the last 12 months, and no conviction for 6 moving violations within the last 24 months. Be covered by a current motor vehicle liability insurance policy. A valid New Mexico driver's license will be required at the time of appointment. 11. Be a United States citizen. 12. Have been discharged from any and all military service under not less then honorable conditions. 13. Possess uncorrected visual acuity of 20/100 or better in each eye with both eyes correctable, with eye-glasses, to at least 20/20 binocular vision, or 20/200 or better vision correctable to at least 20/20 binocular vision with contact lenses; and the ability to distinguish between the basic color groups. 15. Be examined by a licensed physician, is free of any physical condition that might adversely affect his law enforcement training as a police officer or prohibit him from successfully completing a prescribed basic law enforcement training required by the Law Enforcement Training Act. 16. Business necessity requires that past drug usage may be grounds for rejection for employment. This information will be verified and evaluated. 17. Be examined by a licensed psychologist and be free of any emotional or mental condition that might affect his performance as a police officer or prohibit him from successfully completing a prescribed basic law enforcement training as required by the Law Enforcement Training Act. THESE REQUIREMENTS WILL BE CONFIRMED.
