Contact Person: Steve Sanders, 575/763-9420
Clovis – January 6, 2014 – On Thursday, January 2, 2014, agents of the Region V Drug task force conducted a “buy bust” operation in the area of the 2800 blk of N. Prince Street.
Agents received information from a Tipsoft report where a male person was openly selling synthetic marijuana. The tip indicated the suspect is an employee of the “Up in Smoke” shop located in the 200 blk of Prince Street.
The agents made contact with the male and purchased a 5 gram bag of synthetic marijuana for $20.00. The male was placed under arrest and indentified as Jesus Loya, 22 years old. Mr. Loya is a resident of Clovis.
During the arrest, Mr. Loya was wearing his “Up in Smoke” employee shirt when he sold the synthetic marijuana to the agents. The agents seized 70 grams of the synthetic marijuana from Mr. Loya during the contact.
The agents also learned the “Up in Smoke” shop stopped selling the synthetic marijuana about two weeks earlier when the new ordinance prohibiting the sell of the synthetic marijuana was passed. So, Mr. Loya admitted he was selling the drug on the street. Mr. Loya was also in possession of suspected methamphetamine and cocaine. Currently, the “Up in Smoke” shop is no longer in business.
Mr. Loya was transported to the Curry County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession with the intent to traffic.
A photo of Mr. Loya is attached with this release. No other information is available at this time.
