Incident Type: Homicide – Man Brought In To Clovis-Plains Regional Medical Center By Private Vehicle Dies From Apparent Stab Wounds

On Saturday, March 13, 2010 at approximately 12:16 am Officers of the Clovis Police Department were dispatched to the Emergency Room at Clovis-Plains Regional Medical Center in reference to a stabbing victim. Upon the Officer’s arrival he learned that the victim had been brought in by another man in a private vehicle. When the Officer went back to make contact with the man after speaking to medical staff, the man had left the hospital. Another Clovis Police Officer located the man and the vehicle a short time later at an address on Calhoun Street and the man was brought to the police department for questioning and the vehicle seized for evidence.
The victim succumbed to his multiple stab wound injuries to the torso a few hours later and was pronounced dead at Clovis-Plains Regional Medical Center at approximately 2:50 am.
The Major Crimes Unit, consisting of the Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff Office, Roosevelt County Sheriff Office and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office was activated to assist in the conduct of the homicide investigation.
The victim has been positively identified as 21-year-old Andrew Gama of Clovis. The victim’s immediate family has been notified of his death prior to his name being released.
Clovis Police had been dispatched to a “Fight In-Progress” call at approximately 12:08 am on March 13, 2010 at the Clovis Apartments in a parking lot near Charlotte Street. Several people fled the scene upon the arrival of police. Police were able to locate blood in the parking lot consistent with a stabbing and the call came in from the hospital approximately 8 minutes later of a stabbing victim being dropped off there at Clovis-Plains Regional Medical Center.
As of the time of this press release Officers of the Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office and 9th Judicial District Attorney Investigators are actively locating and conducting interviews with witnesses, neighbors, friends, co-workers and acquaintances of Andrew Gama. Search warrants for evidence will be served on vehicles and other addresses in Clovis. At this time the motive for the murder is unknown. The investigation is on going by the Major Crimes Unit.
No further information or press release will be given out until a major development occurs or by Monday, March 15.
