On Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at approximately 8:45 PM, the Clovis Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call of shots being fired in the 1000 block of N. Prince Street.  As officers were enroute to the area, the dispatch center received a second call indicating a person was “down.”

Officers arrived on scene to find a 44 year old male and a 25 year old female in the front yard of 1004 ½ N. Prince Street.These two victims had been shot.  The two victims have been identified as Guadalupe Casteneda of Clovis and Joe Valero Jr. of Clovis.

The investigation is being conducted by the 9th Judicial District Major Crimes Unit, which is comprised of the Clovis Police Department, Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Roosevelt County Sheriff’s Office and the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The preliminary investigation revealed Mr. Valero and Mr. Deleon were attending a gathering at Mr. Valero’s residence.  An argument broke out between the two men, which resulted in a “fist fight.”  Mr. Deleon left the gathering, went to his residence next door and secured a weapon.  When Mr. Deleon returned, shots were fired striking Mr. Valero and Ms. Casteneda. Mr. Valero died of his injuries on the scene.

Ms. Casteneda was transported to PRMC and was later transferred to a medical facility in Lubbock where she later died of her injuries.

The suspect is identified as Enrique Deleon. Mr. Deleon is 26 years of age.

Mr. Deleon has been arrested and charged with an open count of Murder and Child Endangerment.  He is currently in incarcerated in the Curry County Adult Detention Facility on $100,000.00 bond.
